Chengdu & My Birthday

This weekend is the May holiday in China. This means Piers and I have 9 days off. So we are going to Chengdu. Chengdu is the capital city of the neighbouring province, Sichwan. Sichwan is famous for it's pandas and scenery (most period Chinese stuff is filmed here). We'll be meeting about 6 other gappers there. Chengdu is also a very big city, bigger than Kunming. As well as all this excitment, tomorrow is my birthday! YAY!

Anyway, I won't be able to go on the net for 9 days or so, so no more updates.

A rapid paced summary of the last few weeks! BAM!

It seems I've gathered a bit of a following of readers, which is exciting. However with mild power comes mild responsibiliy and now I feel obliged to update more regularly about what I have been doing. GRRRRR curse you twosided pleasure and annoyance of expectations! I read through the comments just now and became aware that Ms. Palmer knows of my blog (HI PALMY!), so I hope also that Sheldy does (HI SHELDY! I hope you are very well!).

Anyway, this weekend we didn't go anywhere. Mainly because we were all weekend travellinged out because we went places the last 3 or so weekends. We had no plans for Saturday or Sunday, and so on Saturday we didn't do anything much at all. Sunday we were invited to go fishing with a non-english teacher called Maxim. His english is just passable. The fishing was boring, at least for me, because I seem to be bad at it and only caught one fish. Afterwards (we had about 10 kilos of fish!) we went to Maxim's friend's resterant where they cooked up an increadably spicy fish soup. Piers drank too much bijou (a kind of chinese spirit - worst spirit known to man) and got drunky and had to go throw up. I stayed sober (no really, I did!) and was rewarded for my sobriety when Maxim offered to instruct me on how to play Mahjong. Mahjong is awsome, everyone should try it, and the tiles look like cream cakes with a layer of green jelly on top, so you want to eat them! I won, my first and only game, that gives me a 100% winning streak, I'm great hahaha. So anyway, that was about the highlight of the weekend.

Last week for most the week I was really sick, though I still went to class. I had virally symptoms like achy joins and cold sweats but i also had stomach cramps which were terrrrible. I'm ok now though. Anyway, because of this I decided to have a bit of a slack week and show my classes Ferris Bueller's Day Off which is a great movie and they love it.

The weekend before last week all the Yunnan GAPpers met Sally (the UK GAP Co-ordinator) in Kunming (the capital of Yunnan - 1hr and a half from here). We all had a really good time and managed to find some western food and bars! Hooray! The Green Lake area of Kunming is really beutiful. We took out two paddle boats with the Kunming guys and Yuxi girls, it was a really awsome time and after we'd gone around the lake we just rammed each other and shouted piratey things. OH and i almost forgot! A guy was walking along the street randomly came up to me and asked me (in chinese, we were with one of the kunming guy's students who translated) to be in a play as the villan! I would have done it, but 1) i don't live in Kunming 2) i don't speak Chinese. But on the basis of my appearance whilst wearing my sunnies alone he thought i was very villan-worthy! Haha.

Anyway, that's a rapid summery of everything i've been slack about posting. I'll try to keep up with events a little more now.
